Otis Design Lab student Khang Nguyen (‘21 BFA Communication Arts) was hired to design a poster wrap for the cover of the Otis College viewbook. The College wanted a colorful poster design that evoked Los Angeles.
Khang integrated Los Angeles architectural and cultural elements into the illustration after centering the main Otis College building—an architecturally significant work originally designed by Eliot Noyes in 1964 as an IBM research facility—on the front cover. The viewbook utilized two Pantone colors, a neon orange and a purple. Khang used these colors in his illustration as well, creating visual consistency between the cover and the inside of the book. The final result is bold and eye-catching, which is exactly what the client wanted.
