Designers were challenged to create a brand for Design Lab that highlighted the connection to Otis College while also differentiating itself as a separate entity.
The designers drew on their own experiences in Design Lab, as well as interviews with alumni to create their identity concepts. They were inspired by the Lab’s versatility, collaborative nature, and youthful energy. The winning concept, created by Yichen Shen, leverages the iconic rectangles from Otis College’s brand and rearranges them to evoke growth, ideation, and transformation. “I wanted to emphasize our responsibility as thinkers,” says Yichen, “and show how Design Lab benefits students and clients at the same time.” The team worked together to implement the branding - creating invoice and proposal templates, animations, and even tote bags.
