Design lab was hired to create a mobile-first website that turns a furniture showroom into a multimedia experience. As the user walks through the physical space, a digital story about a woman’s evolving sense of style unfolds, incorporating the spaces and furniture pieces into the narrative.
This complex project required copywriting, illustration, and web design to harmonize together in one multimedia experience. The students began by crafting a narrative around the key furniture pieces in the physical showroom. Each furniture setting (or room) was a stop on the journey, which they brought to life on the website. Realizing that users would be navigating the site distracted and one-handed, the designers kept navigation minimal with a continuous scroll. The illustration style and color palettes for the site were chosen to blend with each physical space, while simple animations make the story engaging. This creative approach to presenting furniture received significant attention and praise at the furniture show.
