Bio/Affiliation: 

Marina Idelman was born and raised in Odessa, Ukraine former USSR. After getting her AA degree in Odessa’s college of Fashion Design, she continued her education and graduated with Honors from Odessa’s Apparel Industry Institute, where she earned her bachelor’s degree.   

She started teaching in the same college as a Fashion Design Instructor right after graduating.  

In 1988 she moved to United States and took classes at Santa Monica college where she received numerous awards for her garments on fashion show runways. At the same time, she began working in the fashion industry as a first patternmaker and then moved fast to supervisor position where she oversaw pattern, sewing and cutting rooms for the company’s three divisions. Her experience in patternmaking has ranged from working with different types of fabrics like fine silks, woven, knits, novelty laces, garment dyed and washed fabrications. She worked for companies producing dresses, tops and bottoms, tailored jackets for Junior, Better Sportswear, Petites, Plus size and kids’ divisions.  She has a strong background working for Premium denim companies. In Spring of 2021 she accepted a full-time Assistant Professor position at Otis College of Art and Design. Mrs. Idelman enjoyed her role as a studio instructor and despite working remotely, was extremely proud of her students’ achievements and Mentor Project work. Her knowledge and extensive experience in the apparel industry will be a value for students who want to learn fashion design, patternmaking and sewing.
