Game and Entertainment Design at Otis

At Otis College, we help students understand the industry-standard pipelines involved in creating the first visual representations of characters, environments, and props for games and entertainment productions. By providing foundational skills synergized with production techniques and essential soft skills, we shape inventive and creative world builders who also benefit from studying in L.A., the entertainment capital of the world.

What You’ll Learn

In our BFA in Game and Entertainment Design program, you’ll learn how to communicate ideas and bring them to life through games and immersive experiences. We explore the composition of the industry and how games and a variety of projects are developed from  concept to finished product. We help you build skills like concept art, modeling, texturing, lighting, and pipeline game engine integration within the context of environment, storyline, and characters.

Program Curriculum

Optional Emphasis in Concept Art

In the Game and Entertainment Design program, the Concept Art emphasis* will provide you with a critical foundation in visual storytelling, character development, world-building and production practice, all essential components in game production. Concept art plays a key role in the pre-production phase, offering the creative blueprint that informs the 3D modeling, texturing, and environmental design needed for real-time projects.

In addition, you’ll develop expertise in character and prop design, environment art, digital painting, and ideation—essential skills for defining the visual style of games and entertainment experiences. Through the core Game and Entertainment Design curriculum, you’ll  acquire the technical expertise needed to bring creative visions to life, with a focus on engine integration, optimization, and interactivity.
