I make figurative abstract paintings primarily on unstretched canvas. I enjoy painting
on unstretched canvas because it allows me to paint against the hard surface of the
wall. My interest is taking ordinary subject matter and enlarging their scale. The
last six months have consisted of making acrylic paintings on unstretched canvas of
cheeseburgers. They were inspired from Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans which formally
started out as an experiment but soon turned into these grotesque abominations. Conversations
have been brought to life of the overconsumption of foods in America, and how the
cheeseburger is this symbol of the "Iconic American food". Even how food can be seen
as a drug, that it can be so addicting and how the food industry is encouraging this
unhealthy way of eating.
