You are here

Welcome to Otis College and to the Foundation (first year) program. You are about to begin your professional training in art & design. To prepare for your course advising session, please read through the Foundation Curriculum webpage and the fall course descriptions, as well as the Liberal Arts and Sciences First Year fall curriculum. After you have reviewed the fall semester curriculum, you can preview the Section schedules and faculty bios provided below.

Foundation Courses and “Sections”

In the fall semester all first year students take the studio courses Form and Figure, Contemporary Studio + Creative Action, and Color and Design, in addition to two liberal arts courses. Students enrolled in the Foundation program take their studio courses with a “section,” or group of students who, as a learning community, share the same weekly schedule, faculty, projects, and assignments in the fall semester.

Sections allow students to bond well with their classmates and learn quickly in a familiar environment. Please review the available sections to determine which options you prefer, as some options include evening and online courses, and others include Digitially Enhanced course offerings. During your advising session, you will learn more about the classes you will take in fall, and be able to ask questions. Your Academic Advisor will also let you know which day of the week you will take your Liberal Arts and Science courses, depending on the studio section schedule you select.

Please note that section availability is subject to change, so please confirm during your advising meeting.

Fall 2024 Foundation Studio Sections

Sections with a Digitally Enhanced Contemporary Studio and Creative Action Class

These sections include a Digitally Enhanced Contemporary Studio + Creative Action course. This class integrates 3D design software and Adobe Illustrator as tools to enhance students' learning. Exploring art and design fundamentals, students apply these digital instruments alongside 3D printing methods. These digital enhancements prepare students for contemporary art and design practice, emphasizing creativity and utilizing technology that aligns with industry trends and expectations of their chosen major.
