Notes:

Foundation students will be enrolled in two Liberal Arts and Science classes in fall semester. These classes will be scheduled around selected studio classes.

I have taught Life Drawing, Life/Figure Painting, Beginning and Intermediate Drawing as well as Printmaking Processes such as monoprint, collagraph, screen printing, intaglio and lithography. This course offers me the opportunity to teach combine mediums and techniques to create interesting pictures with unexpected outcomes. I try to incorporate this experimental development in the figure gestures and drawings in my Form and Figure classes by incorporating both monoprint and other matrix driven and collage techniques. In the second semester, with a focus on personal expression, students learn to combine direct observational short and sustained figure drawings with collage and a variety of mediums. Using their sketchbook studies as inspiration, students use quick sketch figure and costume studies to develop formal, aesthetic and expressive drawings.

Emma Kemp

Hello, world! I’m a person who does things that are sometimes deemed unusual. I’m all about art and design as a process and a practice—an approach to living that might make a difference in the world. Part of my professional agenda is to break down traditional educational conventions, replacing those outmoded structures with relevant curriculum that’s not only innovative but also super inclusive, especially for those of us who think and feel a little differently.

I've spent a good deal of my life exploring the dynamics of visual and expressive language. What I want to explore with you is how we might activate art-design practice in 2024 to challenge the status quo?

My work is research-driven, multi-disciplinary and ever evolving.

If you're curious about what I've been up to, check out my projects here: www.emmakemp.com; www.nocanyonhills.org; www.bakersfield.studio/.

I am an interdisciplinary artist working primarily in the fields of sculpture, sound, and performance. I am endlessly fascinated with the materiality of our post-natural world, peering between binaries where complexity occurs and the possibilities of wisdom in art are revealed. I deploy a wide range of making strategies in my practice. It’s not uncommon to find highly fabricated 3D printed forms alongside ceramic objects and ready-mades found washed up on the beach in my installations. In my class I encourage this multifaceted approach, where I will work with you to develop technical strategies and conceptual approaches for your projects. I look forward to exploring the magic within your artistic endeavors, pushing boundaries and discovering new possibilities!
