2023 Valedictory Award
Product Design major Reanna Brown has been named Valedictorian of the Class of 2023. This award is bestowed annually on the member of the senior class whose work represents the pinnacle of academic excellence. This graduate receives a special medallion and presents an address to be included in this year's Commencement recognition. Reanna was chosen for their continuously stellar academic performance throughout her Otis College career and the exceptional quality of their studio work.
Growing up in Jamaica, Reanna was taught to see the beauty in nature, culture, and humanity. Art and design are a significant part of her heritage, and she learned to prioritize and embrace creativity. After joining the Otis community, she discovered her passion for product design and has since focused on creating meaningful, environmentally conscious designs, primarily in furniture and lighting. As Reanna states, “To me, design is not just about creating things to be sold to others for profit, but making things worth keeping—things that will solve issues, enhance our world, and create experiences.” While continuing to find her voice as a designer, and striving to be a lifelong learner, Reanna remains grateful for being able to pursue design as a career and doesn’t take for granted the support provided by her family at home and her family at Otis.
A talented, considerate, profoundly investigative, and devoted designer that brings out the best in her classmates, instructors, the Product Design department, and larger Otis communities, Reanna is truly an asset to Otis College.
