Summer of Art Welcomes International Students
International Student Definition
We consider an international student to be any student without a U.S. passport who lives outside the United States or a student who is attending school in the United States on a visa.
International Student Types
Academic International Students
Academic international students are students who attend Summer of Art under an existing student visa (most commonly F-1).
Visiting International Students
Visiting international students are students who attend Summer of Art under a visitor visa (most commonly B-2).
International Student Program Options
Academic International Student Program
Full-Day Program
Eligible international students with appropriate student visas may attend the full, 5-day Summer of Art program for college credit. They may enroll in any Specialization and Drawing Studio of their choice and are not required to enroll in the Arts Immersion Program for International Students.
Please note that on-campus housing is only available to international students between the ages of 14.5-18 who are enrolled in the full-day program.
Visiting International Student Program
Full-Day Program
Eligible international students with appropriate visitor visas may attend the full, 5-day Summer of Art program for noncredit under the following parameters:
- Student is between the ages of 14.5-18
- Student is enrolled in one Specialization course and one drawing course for noncredit:
- Student is enrolled in the Arts Immersion Program for International Students (mandatory)
Please note that the Arts Immersion Program for International Students is only open to international students enrolled in the full, 5-day program.

Eligibility and Requirements
Visa Eligibility
Enrollment in Summer of Art as an international student is contingent upon visa eligibility. Visa eligibility will be determined during the student’s application process.

English Language Proficiency
Summer of Art is conducted in English only, so international students must have college-ready English language skills.
If applying from a country where English is not the primary language, your application must be accompanied by one of the following:
- A letter on school letterhead from a school official, counselor, or English teacher that affirms college-ready skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English
OR
- Proof of one of the following language competency test scores:
- TOEFL exam with a score of 79 or above
- Pearson Test of English with a score of 58 or above
- iELTS with overall band score of 6.5 or above
- Duolingo English Test with a score of 105 or above
The English proficiency requirement may also be waived for native English speakers who are citizens of any of the following countries and attend schools where English is the primary language of instruction: England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, India, South Africa and Commonwealth Caribbean (Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago).
College Credit
An I-20 Certificate of Eligibility for an F-1 student visa is required in order to attend Summer of Art for college credit. International students attending for college credit must:
- Currently reside in the United States
- Be attending another academic institution under a current student visa
- Submit proof of attendance from your school on current letterhead with dates of attendance and signed by a designated school official.
