Bio and Affiliation
Harsh Patel (born Nairobi, living and working in Los Angeles) is a graphic designer, design educator, and publisher. He has collaborated with galleries, artist studios, fashion designers, non-profit organizations, musicians, and cultural institutions. Projects from the past five years include design for Harvard's Graduate School of Design, Dazed magazine, Museums Moving Forward, and Qatar Museums.
In 2024, he published "thinking in english: teaching design in the western system", a reader that challenges the Western study of graphic design to greater flexibility. Central issues are globalization, how canons are shaped and re-shaped, commercialism and values, ideological working practices, and teaching approaches that consider class and socio-cultural backgrounds.
He has lectured extensively on how design history is continually reshaped by issues of equality and representation, at institutions such as Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Künste Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, Estonian Academy of Arts, Universidad de Monterrey, Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, and Yale School of Art.
