Bio and Affiliation

Chan Koak is an artist and educator with interdisciplinary training in fine arts and psychology. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Fine Arts, and a doctorate in psychology. Her work engages the intersections of visual art, cognition, and human experience, with a particular focus on creative development and perceptual awareness.

She has been a faculty member at Otis College of Art and Design since 2014, where she teaches Figure Drawing and Drawing Studio courses within the Foundation Department, as well as Beginning Drawing for the Summer of Art (SOA) Program. Her teaching emphasizes foundational drawing skills, observational rigor, and conceptual development, with an emphasis on fostering each student’s individual artistic voice within a structured studio environment.

Her academic and pedagogical approach is informed by psychological perspectives on creativity and learning, integrating technical instruction with an understanding of cognitive and developmental processes in artistic practice. Her interests include art education, counseling-informed approaches to learning, and expressive methods that support creativity and well-being.
