Book Launch Event This Wednesday, March 28 at 18th Street Arts Center

What started as a series of essays exploring issues of equality and representation in the arts field has become Anuradha Vikram's new book Decolonizing Culture. Vikram is a writer, curator, and educator. She serves as the artistic director at 18th Street Arts Center, a member of the Board of Directors of the College Art Association, and senior lecturer in the MFA Social Practice Area Emphasis at Otis College.

Published by Art Practical and Sming Sming Books, Decolonizing Culture examines case studies of several arts institutions' efforts (or missteps) to become more inclusive as well as the artists and artworks working to successfully bring about change. Vikram recently sat down with Michelle Dizon and Việt Lê, authors of White Gaze, for a conversation on the books' themes including why questioning the way in which the visual world is shaped is essential. Los Angelenos can hear from Vikram this Wednesday, March 28 at the 18th Street Arts Center for a book launch celebration. Vikram will be in conversation with artist and editor Bean Gilsdorf, followed by a reception and book signing.
