Bio/Affiliation:

Creating artworks with an interdisciplinary approach towards process, Jamie Russom explores diverse disciplines specializing in the areas of printmaking, photography, and audio/visual installation. She received an MFA in Studio Art from the Glasgow School of Art in 2016 and a BFA in Printmaking from California State University Long Beach in 2006. Russom’s work has been exhibited throughout the US and Europe and is a part of several special collections including the La Fondazione Vittorio Leonesio in Italy and the Glasgow Science Centre, in Scotland, UK. Recent exhibitions include The Decatur Arts Alliance at the Atlanta Airport in Georgia and Infinite Drift at the Greenleaf Gallery in Whittier, California. Jamie Russom is an artist and educator currently living in Los Angeles.

About the Work:
In her practice, Russom utilizes experimentation as a method for revealing fortuitous happenstances found in seemingly unstable environments. By collaborating with nature, she arranges elements through a set of constraints, forfeiting control over a predictive outcome and allowing structure to emerge. Her approach has its beginnings in the concept that art can demonstrate a subconscious interdependency of reactions to our external surroundings. Within this process, she has found a personal language stemming from themes of indeterminacy, temporality, and the ephemeral. In many instances, the work that is generated can be viewed as a trace or remnant of the process itself.

Recent Work

Infinite Drift

Infinite Drift was conceived specifically for the Greenleaf Gallery. It is a visual and auditory experience created by Jamie Russom and Martin Beal that offers viewers an encounter with a mid-state between dreams and wakefulness where meditative images and sounds repeat with ever-undulating contexts and meanings, each of them unique to the beholder.
