Fine Art Photojournalism in the Age of Social Media
Fine Art Photojournalism has evolved into a specialized type of art reportage that requires skills in photography, writing, diplomacy, and art criticism. Social Media has evolved to support our need to know and to stay connected. In this course, students report the news about fellow artists and the emerging icons of the contemporary art world using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Blogger, Tumblr, and more. Students photograph art and interview artists at gallery exhibitions, museum openings, and art receptions in the Los Angeles area. Participants learn how to develop and write objective stories, maintain professional relationships, and demonstrate skilled criticism. Students develop images for publication online and/or portfolio review. Lectures take place at Otis however students are required to visit exhibitions throughout the city to collect relevant information.
