Technology Planning

Technology Planning at Otis is led by the Technology Steering Committee comprised of the CIO, the Director of Academic Computing, and Director of the Library and Instructional Technology. The role of the Steering Committee is to track the needs of the community, advise, plan, discuss, evaluate, and guide the technology initiatives, programs and facilities to achieve the educational mission and goals of the College. The Steering Committee is responsible to update the Otis Technology Plan document annually and submit it to the Senior Cabinet.

The Technology Steering Committee meets monthly. Suggestions, proposals, concerns, ideas, suggestions, questions, and feedback are encouraged from anyone and everyone. Please send emails to: DSG_Tech_Steering@otis.edu

Community input, whether through meetings or email, is necessary to assist in providing broad perspective to the Steering Committee and to be used in planning, evaluating, implementing, integrating and supporting appropriate technologies for teaching and learning in the College. Appropriate topics include, but are not limited to: web enhanced instructional technologies in both liberal arts and studio classes; faculty training and support; ensuring adequate classroom, lab and technology facilities at all campus sites; equipping all open labs and classrooms with appropriate technology; and issues related to technologies which support the administrative functions and processes of the College.

Academic Department Representatives are appointed by the Academic Assembly to an Academic Technology Committee. They come to two meetings a year convened by the Technology Steering Committee. The Fall meeting is an open college-wide meeting about the "State of Technology at Otis." The Spring meeting is focused on budgeting and other issues related to any and all academic technologies. Additional meetings of the Academic Technology Committee may be convened as needed by the Director of Academic Computing, the Director of the Library and Instructional Technology, or by the Academic Department Representatives themselves. Representatives are important conduits of information and should take responsibility to notify the Steering Committee of any problems or issues as they surface (via email or by setting up a meeting).

The CIO organizes Administrative Technology Focus Groups as necessary and seeks to involve appropriate representative to help plan, evaluate, and oversee technology initiatives and programs. These sub-groups meet as needed. Once a year, the entire Otis Community is invited to a "State of Technology at Otis" meeting.
