The Andy Warhol Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to Otis in support of the exhibition "Doin it in Public: Feminism and Art at the Woman’s Building", which documents the history and legacy of the Woman’s Building, a public center for women’s culture that was a powerful symbol of the feminist art movement in Los Angeles and around the world. The exhibition, supported by The Getty Foundation, is part of the larger initiative “Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980” which, through an unprecedented series of concurrent exhibitions beginning in October 2011 throughout Southern California, highlights the significance of art in Los Angeles in the post-World War II decades.
The Warhol Foundation's focus is supporting contemporary visual art, particularly work that is experimental and under-recognized, said Warhol Foundation President Joel Wachs. "Since the Woman's Building was a major force in the feminist art movement and the L.A. art scene that is unfamiliar to many, we are very pleased to support this exhibition and catalogue."
