Two exhibitions open at Otis on Saturday, June 26, 4-7. At the Ben Maltz Gallery, Todd Schorr: Designed for Extinction, a solo exhibition of paintings by this Los Angeles-based artist who is a leading figure in the world of “pop surrealism” and the “lowbrow.”  His highly polished, fantastic paintings are intricate narratives about evolution and the plight of man. The opening reception features live music by GLUE ONE, tshirts, book signings, and tacos.Through Sept 11.

At the Bolsky Gallery, SHALLOW 1-21 by Malcolm McLaren (1946-2010) is an 86-minute video that combines music remixes and short clips appropriated from vintage porn films that have been spliced, repeated, and slowed down. The result is a hypnotic, layered, and provocative experience. McLaren consistently pushed boundaries with his music, fashion, and art. Through Sept 2.
