Alumni win BAFTA award for Flower

05/19/10

The video game "Flower" won the award for artistic achievement (the video game equivalent of the Oscar) from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, as well as best downloadable game from the annual Game Developers Choice Awards. Alumnus Matt Nava ('08) of Santa Monica-based That Game Company was the lead artist/art director for this project, Hao Cui ('06) was lead artist/art director, and Thomas Yamaoka ('08) was one of two illustrators on the team. Players "journey through a beautifully vivid and changing landscape," changing the landscape as they pick up and deposit natural elements. The tension between "urban bustle and natural serenity" keeps the game alive.
