Alumni doing well and doing good

Fast Company's (March 24) "Design and Innovation" blog profiles "Johnny Appleseeds for the 21st Century," alumni Daniel Phillips (Architecture/Landscape/Interiors, '08) and Kim Karlsrud (Product Design, '07). Their new project, seed bombs, are distributed in old fashioned gumball machines. Their company, Greenaid, has installed the dispensers,which hold balls of nutrient clay with seeds from indigenous species. The first machines are in Chinatown, part of an urban guerilla gardening effort to bring beauty and life to empty lots and median strips throughout the city.
