It's Oscar nomination time in L.A., and Daphne Yap ('04) has been singled out by Director James Cameron for her work in his blockbuster hit "Avatar." As he explains in Variety, Jan 21, she was essential in creating the creatures' dazzling look because "she just was the most amazing textile designer I've ever seen." Her touch is evident in most of the Na'vi costumes and jewelry, and, according to Cameron, "Daphne-ization was the last step" for all of the creatures. He likens this to a paint booth, where "you build a car, but then she gets to paint it." Alumna Linsday Thompson ('07) was a lead animator on this film.
