The First Year
Your first year in an Otis BFA program builds up your making and critical thinking skills in Foundation studio, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Creative Action courses.

Creative Action
Creative Action is an interdisciplinary, project-based learning program that partners students with diverse community organizations, both locally and globally. Through this program, students collaborate with nonprofits, cultural institutions, and businesses to develop and implement creative solutions to real-world challenges. The program is designed to foster critical thinking, leadership, and teamwork, providing students with invaluable experience that extends beyond the classroom.
Minors
At Otis College of Art and Design, students have the opportunity to enrich their educational experience by pursuing a variety of minors that complement their major studies. The available minors include Art History, Book Arts, Creative Writing, Digital Media, Illustration, Interior Design, Painting, Photography, Product Design, Sculpture/New Genres, and Sustainability. Each minor is designed to provide students with a deeper understanding and skill set in a specific area, allowing them to broaden their horizons and enhance their versatility.
Summer of Art
Summer of Art is Otis College’s premier pre-college program. Designed for students 14.5 years and older, this four-week program offers and immersive art and design experience and an opportunity to earn college credit. Courses include painting, digital media, fashion design, and more, taught by professionals. The program concludes with a final exhibition where students showcase their work. It’s a great opportunity to develop creativity and prepare for college.
Art and Design Education
The Art and Design Education minor at Otis College prepares students for diverse professional roles as socially engaged artists, designers, and educators. This program equips students to work in K-12 schools, museum education departments, community art centers, and other educational and therapeutic settings. Through coursework and internships, students gain practical experience and develop skills in teaching, community engagement, and creative problem-solving.
