LIB wikis

Fall 2010: Wikis.otis.edu was taken down for maintenance. We apologize for the inconvenience,

What exactly is a wiki?
A wiki is a web-based software that allows collaborative writing.

Is that like Wikipedia?
Yes, Wikipedia is the prime example of a wiki and the largest one in the world. It is collaboratively edited by thousands of people.

How are people at Otis using wikis?
Because they are easy to use and accessible from anywhere, they can be a great platform for groups to work out ideas, plan, or collaboratively create something. See the examples below:

How do I get an Otis Wiki?

We have an installation of MediaWiki, the open source software used by Wikipedia. You will need to make a request for a wikis to be set up for you through the TLC. There are also several free sites which are good and you can set those up yourself.

Where can I learn more?
The TLC offers workshops and consultations both on Wikipedia as well as the pedagogy of teaching. There is also information available on the web.
