Once again, the Teaching Learning Center will offer free Faculty Workshops during the week of Convocation. Subjects include daily tools needed such as the many resources within O-Space Learning Management System and ePortfolio modules, as well as creating Blogs, or searching basic databases. As before, these workshops will be held on the Goldsmith Campus, in the Ahmanson Building. Come learn something new or sign up to simply refresh your memory…

If you cannot these workshops, they may be offered throughout the year and are easily available by request.

Basic Database Searching: Introduction to the various online resources purchased by the Otis Library and to the methods for finding needles among the haystack of the billions of pages of data. Discussion of strategies for faculty to use in teaching students to do appropriate research for courses. Facilitator: Sue Maberry

Blogs: Learn how to start a blog and use it in class or for a group with a common interest. Create and customize your own. Discuss pedagogy of using blogs. Facilitator: Heather Cleary

Help Clinic: Please stop by and tell us what you need help with – if we can’t help you, we will search for a way to find out how. Facilitator: Kathleen Forrest

O-Space: The Basics: General introduction to the Learning Management System section of O-Space. Confirm your classes are listed and students are enrolled; learn to upload your Syllabus as well as other file formats. Learn about setting up optional groups called Communities.

O-Space: e-Portfolios: General introduction to our e-Portfolio section within O-Space. Faculty, students, and staff may create ePortfolios for a variety of uses, such as onlines syllabi, resumes, or for posting course work for review. Learn about the specific type of e-Portfolio called Learning ePortfolio - Students will start their Learning e-Portfolios during Foundation year and maintain it throughout their time at Otis. O-Space: Grades & Attendance: NEED COPY HERE. Facilitator: Kathleen Forrest

O-Space: Submissions: An introduction to new O-Space tools that will allow faculty and students to connect submitted coursework to learning outcomes. This new feature will be a requirement in particular LAS courses beginning Fall 2011. Facilitators: Heather Cleary, Jean-Marie Venturini

OtisDID: General introduction to our Otis Digital Image Database (DID). Create slideshows for your classes. Learn how to sign in, search the databases, and select images to create a presentation. Practice with the presentation viewer. Organize your slideshows. Upload your personal images to supplement ours. Create canned searches. Burn your slideshow to a CD. Export your images into PowerPoint. Facilitator: Heather Cleary

Scanning Slides, Photos, & Prints and Capturing Your Own Photos to Use: Useful skills for teaching are covered with these two workshops. Learn how to scan a variety of image formats as well as capture your photos from your own camera. Once you have your images, learn Photoshop basics on how to save them to use for your own class or project. Facilitator: Derek McMullen
