Develop your illustration and communication skills with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from Otis College of Art and Design. Our intensive curriculum encourages students to cultivate a  personal style through their images and use image-making skills to refine their self-directed creative practices, as well as support the communication needs of a variety of industries in multiple contexts. We emphasize collaboration between disciplines and media fluency, helping you sharpen your skills and voice through critiques, reviews, and workshops, as well as experiential learning through visiting artists, conventions, field trips, and student exhibitions. 

The BFA in Illustration prepares students for careers as professional Illustrators, art directors, creator of animated shorts, motion graphic artist, storyboard artists, children’s book illustrators, textile and fabric designers, and muralists among others. A faculty of working professionals guides students  through a curriculum that emphasizes strong concepts, technical proficiency, and the development of a unique style and voice. Engaging activities including visiting artists, field trips, and student exhibitions support a rich community for emerging illustrators. Recent employers and clients of graduates include Netflix, Disney, Nike, Hurley International, Chronicle Books, LA Weekly, College of the Canyons, and Davis Elen Advertising among others.

Illustration majors prepare for careers as professional Illustrators, art directors, storyboard artists, comic book writers, children’s book illustrators, exhibition designers, textile and fabric designers, and muralists. The other area of emphasis is Graphic Design. The College also offers an Advertising Design minor.
