As a photographer, my camera helps me see and understand the world around me. Through both teaching and my own creative practice, engaging with the community at large is a big priority. My artwork explores the conditions of living in close proximity to the Hollywood media machine--portraiture is a major direction, and I love interacting with my subjects. I also make many other kinds of pictures, including experimental work in the darkroom, photographs of outer space, and documents of my travels. I’ve lived in Italy, Brazil, England, India, and the Netherlands, and have studied multiple languages. I’m also an avid seamstress and make many of my own clothes. For me, the physical process of making develops our sense of space, touch, and personal aesthetic, in addition to activating multiple types of intelligence.
