  • Rendering female models and celebrities on large-scale canvases and with quick, expressive brushstrokes, painter Katherine Bernhardt examines representations of beauty in mainstream media and fashion photography. She paints her subjects with severe, exaggerated features and emaciated limbs that sometimes morph into abstraction, recalling the works of Pablo Picasso. “Some people ask if I hate the models I paint,” she says. “I say no, I don't hate them.

Ave Pildas

Ave Pildas, Graduate Degree in Graphic Design, Kunstgewerbeshule, Basel, Switzerland; BFA in Graphic Design, University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Art Academy. Mr. Pildas' work has been exhibited in one-person exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Center (Cincinnati), Photographer's Gallery (London), Janus Gallery (Los Angeles), Gallerie Diaframma (Milan), Cannon Gallery (Amsterdam), Gallerie 38 (Zurich), and numerous group shows. His work has been featured in The New York Times Magazine, ZOOM. PHOTO, CAMERA, and photographic. Mr. Pildas photograhs are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (New York), Bibliotheca National (Paris), and University of Arizona. Mr. Pildas is a Professor Emeritus at Otis College of Art and Design.
