Continuing Education Course

Painting with Acrylics: Ages 13-15

Acrylic paints offer the flexibility of oils, with the advantage of faster drying and less hassle. Working in a studio setting with instruction from a professional artist, students begin at their own skill level and advance at their own pace. Students learn how to mix colors, prepare a canvas, execute different styles (realistic, impressionist, minimalist, abstract, etc.), paint from photos, life, and the imagination. Students also explore impasto, texturing, glazing, and wash techniques.

Prerequisite: Beginning Drawing or equivilant

First class materials: Bring 12”x16” canvas, one tube each of black and white acrylic paints, one HB pencil, a pink pearl eraser, a small plastic pencil sharpener, a set of small and medium flat and round brushes, small plastic palette, sketch pad, tool box for supplies, and an inexpensive portfolio for storing paintings.
