This oil painting course uses the nude figure as subject and inspiration. The focus is on alla prima (working wet into wet to complete a painting in one session) figure painting, direct figure and head painting techniques. Finding poetic focus and essence of the pose is a primary directive in this course. Course emphasizes the use of values, shapes, edges, and color temperature. Students also explore fundamentals of composition, color mixing, limited palette, painting techniques, and methodologies.
Prerequisite: Life Drawing or equivalent knowledge
First class materials: 1tube black oil paint, 1 tube white (Titanium) oil paint, 1 canvas board (16" x 20" or 11" x 14"), 1 can turpenoid or Gamsol, 1 flat medium bristle brush (6 or 8), paper towels, bar of soap, small metal can, pallet.
