  • “Foregrounds” is a show exploring how we listen to sounds. It utilizes field recordings by blending songs and spoken word pieces with the soundscapes in which we listen to them – whether it be played along with Los Angeles traffic, the sound of a meal being prepared, or waves at the beach. Presented by DJ Derek (Corn), DJ Nasera (Alayon), DJ Max (Miles) of the Otis Radio class.

Pinch Me I'm Dreaming features work by fine arts students Katherine Hooper, Josh Beliso, Michelle Lang, Kara Singson, Micheal Meads, Berkley Comstock, and Xochitl Castillo.

Texture is a universal experience.  We as humans encounter and perceive countless forms of texture throughout our daily regiments. Texture can be experienced as soft, rough, wet, and in many other variations. Whether it's perceived as visual texture or a physical texture depends on you within the moment you experience it. For example, texture in a photograph is much different than a physical texture you can touch on a sculpture or a painting.  The difference is that in some cases we imagine what a texture might feel like and have no physical access to that texture, and in others we have the opportunity to experience it. The artists in the show express a personal perception of texture through various works that can be digested as both visual and physical.  Each artist uses a perspective on texture to relate to experiences within our lives.  This draws on the idea of the sense of touch and how it plays a vital role within our experience of how we determine reality.  If we can't feel it, does that mean it's not real? Are we dreaming? What is real? Hence we are confronted with a constant need to re-establish a sense of reality and existence through our sensual perceptions, and it is through touch and the experience of texture that that we create this definition of what is real.
