    Open Studios: L.A. Summer Residency

    The artists and designers of the first-ever L.A. Summer Residency invite you to their open studio event! The public can join family and friends as they tour the studios and view all of the incredible work produced during the past three weeks. A closing reception will follow from 4-5:30pm.

    The L.A. Summer Residency at Otis College of Art and Design offers an opportunity for artists and designers to work side-by-side in an immersive three-week residency within the vibrant art and design community of Los Angeles.

  • Amelia Gray is the author of the short story collections AM/PM, Museum of the Weird, and Gutshot, as well as the novels Threats and, most recently, Isadora, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Her fiction and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Tin House, and VICE. She is winner of the New York Public Library Young Lions Award, of FC2's Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Prize, and a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award.

PALS Fellows from AICAD institutions across the US and Canada will convene for the fourth annual Summit. PALS leverages and shares resources among AICAD schools to collectively integrate sustainability into undergraduate and graduate art and design education.

Ezio Manzini is perhaps the world's leading expert on sustainable design, with a focus on scenario-building toward solutions encompassing both environmental and social quality.

He is professor of Industrial Design at Milan Polytechnic, as Director of CIRIS (the Interdepartmental Centre for Research on Innovation for Sustainability), where he focuses on innovative processes in the system of production and consumption and, in particular, on the relationship between product strategies and environmental policies in the perspective of sustainable development.

Manzini is the author of several design books, including The Material of Invention, Artifacts: Towards a New Ecology of the Artificial Environment, and Solid Side: The Search for Consistency in a Changing World (with Marco Susani). His recent book, Sustainable Everyday envisions what life might be like in a sustainable society, putting forth possible scenarios and workable alternatives.
