 the public.\n\n\n\n\n\n As Founder and Principal of the SHASHI CAAN COLLEC
 TIVE\, SHASHI CAAN creates work that demonstrates an understated sensibili
 ty\, uniting the multiple layers of architecture\, interior and product de
 sign. Through a unique collaborative design process\, The COLLECTIVE provi
 des architecture\, interior\, workplace and product design solutions that 
 focus on supporting people both pragmatically and qualitatively.&#160\;The
  COLLECTIVE’s collaborative structure results in highly innovative and s
 uccessful work as exemplified by the firm’s reputation and receipt of ma
 jor industry awards and accolades from sources such as Metropolis\, Archit
 ecture and Interior Design Magazine\; the IIDA\, GlobalShop and NeoCon. Ms
 . CAAN was Contract Magazine’s 25th Anniversary ‘Designer of Year’ i
 n 2004\, as well as IFMA’s ‘Educator of Year’ for Greater New York i
 n 2006.\n\n\n\nMs. CAAN is a multi-talented designer\, acclaimed internati
 onally for bridging the divide between design practice\, theory\, and educ
 ation. At the forefront of advocating the role of Design in society\, Ms. 
 CAAN holds the highest positions in international design advocacy\, as Pre
 sident of The International Federation of Interior Architects/ Designers (
 IFI) – representing over 270\,000 designers worldwide – and as previou
 s Executive Chair\, and current Executive Committee member\, of the Intern
 ational Design Alliance (IDA). \n\n\n\nPreviously\, Ms. CAAN held senior p
 ositions in three major US firms\; Swanke Hayden Connell Architects (SHCA)
 \, Gensler\, and Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM)\, where she was Directo
 r of Design and Associate Partner. Her diverse international portfolio of 
 work includes architectural interiors projects of 1300 to 3\,000\,000 squa
 re feet\, as well as several product lines and an executive aircraft inter
 ior for Alcoa and Gulfstream. Her clients include SEPA-The Scottish Enviro
 nmental Protection Agency\, Goldman Sachs\; Fidelity\; Merrill Lynch\; Inv
 er House Distillers\; Mohawk Industries\; Carnegie Science Center\; DuPont
  and NBC Studios. Ms. CAAN is also a sought-after textile designer and an 
 internationally-recognized color authority\, as evidenced in her widely-pu
 blicized live-lab study\, Spatial Color.\n\n\n\nEqually respected for her 
 valuable contribution to design education\, Ms. CAAN is the former Chair o
 f the Interior Design Department at Parsons The New School for Design in N
 ew York City. She has been on the faculty of several educational instituti
 ons including Pratt Institute. Active in research for the development and 
 improvement of design education\, Ms. CAAN has worked with New York’s Co
 lumbia University\, conducting a research program exploring&#160\;the para
 meters and content for an innovative new design curriculum. Invited for ke
 ynotes\, juries and panel discussions\, she regularly lectures internation
 ally and\, in her capacity as visiting professor\, she conducts master cla
 sses at educational institutions worldwide.\n\n\n\nMs. CAAN sits on numero
 us advisory boards and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA). Aca
 demically\, she holds both a Masters Degree in Architecture and a Masters 
 Degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute\, and a BFA (hons) in Env
 ironmental Design from the Edinburgh College of Art\, UK. Her professional
  work and writing is well published in design journals and periodicals. In
  May 2010\, Ms. Caan was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts Degree
  by the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID).\n\n\nThis Lecture and 
 Reception\, and the associated Master Class\, are made possible through a 
 generous donation from the ANGELO DONGHIA FOUNDATION\, INC.\, a privately 
 held not-for-profit organization created under the will of the late Angelo
  Donghia to provide support for two distinct fields: the advancement of ed
 ucation in the field of interior design and initiatives pertaining to the 
 discovery of causes of AIDS and its related diseases\, and their methods o
 f treatment.\n\n\n\nThis lecture was organized by the ARCHITECTURE/LANDSCA
 PE/INTERIORS Department at Otis College of Art and Design\, which offers a
