 Through the initiative and support of its President\, Pat Scanlon\, the GE
 ORGE H. SCANLON FOUNDATION has generously funded an annual George H. Scanl
 on Foundation Lecture since 1998. \n\nThe George H. Scanlon Foundation Lec
 ture REDUX celebrates this enduring and successful 15-year lecture series 
 by featuring its first lecturer\, WINY MAAS\, who will present and compare
  the work of MVRDV between1998 and 2013.\n\n\n\nWINY MAAS Prof. Ir. Ing FR
 IBA HAIA (1959\, Schijndel\, The Netherlands) is one of the co-founding Di
 rectors of the global architecture and urban planning firm MVRDV\, based i
 n Rotterdam\, Netherlands. Mr. Maas is also a Visiting Professor at ETH Zu
 rich\, as well as Professor and Director of The Why Factory\, a research i
 nstitute for the future city that he founded in 2008 at TU Delft. Previous
 ly Winy Maas served as Professor at MIT\, Ohio State University\, Yale Uni
 versity and the Berlage Institute\, where he was curator of Indesem 2007. 
 Winy Maas also designs stage sets and objects\, and most recently was appo
 inted urban supervisor for the city of Almere\, Netherlands. \n\n\n\nMVRDV
  was set up in Rotterdam in 1993 by Winy Maas\, Jacob van Rijs and Nathali
 e de Vries. MVRDV engages globally in providing solutions to contemporary 
 architectural and urban issues. Its research-based and highly collaborativ
 e design method engages experts from all fields\, clients and stakeholders
  in the creative process. The results are exemplary and outspoken building
 s\, urban plans\, studies and objects\, which enable cities and landscapes
  to contribute towards a better future. MVRDV’s projects vary and range 
 from buildings of all types and sizes\, to urban designs\, publications an
 d installations. Realized projects include the Dutch Pavilion for the Worl
 d EXPO 2000 in Hannover\, the TV   radio broadcasting station Villa VPRO\,
  the iconic social housing project Mirador in Madrid\, and more recently t
 he DNB bank headquarters in Oslo and a public library in Spijkenisse\, Net
