First Year: Foundation


During Foundation year, you will critique your own work and pursue a spirit of investigation. In Liberal Arts and Sciences courses, you will examine how meaning is constructed during the creative process. You will learn both to question everything and to see that everything is connected. The skills you acquire during Foundation year will allow you to focus on WHAT to make during your next three years at Otis, not HOW. These skills will allow you to express your concepts clearly and effectively. Travel to Paris over Spring Break Foundation Courses and Curriculum Foundation Forward

Studio work is complemented by the Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum throughout the four years.

In Integrated Learning (site-based) courses, student teams work with community partners to research, analyze, and propose design solutions.
