Eileen Cowin is an artist who sees living as a means to break boundaries, and psychology as a way to confront us with strange attitudes or to implicate us in seemingly self-imposed spatial confinements. –Art Papers April 2007 by Eve Wood

Sustainability for Faculty

Otis faculty are encouraged to incorporate sustainability practices into their courses, by encouraging students to think about the social and environmental impacts of the work they do, minimizing waste in the production of their art and design projects, separating trash and recyclables into the proper receptacles on campus, and introducing students to the campus Resource Exchange (located behind the ground floor good/metal shop in the parking garage), where they can donate excess materials and supplies. Faculty, staff and students can also trade for needed materials and supplies that may be in stock throughout the year, and on our Annual UpCycle Day, held on the second Wednesday each fall. Faculty are also encouraged to carpool, bike or take public transportation to and from campus.

More information about Otis’ sustainability initiatives is at www.otis.edu/sustainability/college-wide-initiatives.

Learn more about Sustainable art and design practices and theory through the library’s Sustainability Pathfinder.

Teach a Sustainability Minor Elective course: Faculty members who are interested in proposing new courses or tagging existing courses as Sustainability Electives must complete the Sustainability Checklist (PDF) and submit it to the Interdisciplinary Studies Director.
