Artists, Community, and Teaching

"I love that LACMA and Otis are together fostering a new generation of artists who will include public engagement in their practice." - Karen Satzman, Director of Youth and Family Programs, LA County Museum of Art

The Artists, Community, and Teaching (ACT) Program offers two minors: Teacher Credential Preparation or Community Arts Engagement.

BFA students can enroll by downloading the ACT Sophomore Contract (PDF) & declaring an ACT Minor through Interdisciplinary Studies.

Continuing Education students can participate through concurrent enrollment in either the Teacher Credential Preparation track or the Teaching Artist Track of the CE Art Education Certificate program.

Students enrolled in an ACT Minor will...

  • Develop a meaningful connection between their studio art/design practice and an engagement with their community.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the practices and theories of arts education and community engagement.
  • Gain an understanding of career opportunities for community-based and teaching artists/designers.
  • Gain professional practice training through off-campus teaching and community arts internships.

Students enrolled in the Teacher Credential Preparation Minor will also:
